If you are also a ration card holder, be sure to read this news. The Department of Food and Public Distribution is changing the ration card rules. Under this, the standards prescribed for eligible persons taking rations from government ration shops will be changed. Let me tell you – the draft of the new standard is almost ready. For this, the process of meetings with the state governments has also been completed. So let us know about this new provision.
Why are standards changing?
Notably, there are many people in the country who are taking advantage of fake rations. According to the Department of Food and Public Distribution, 800 million people across the country are currently benefiting from the National Food Security Act (NFSA). Among them are many who are financially prosperous. This is the reason why now the government is going to change its rules. The new standard will be made completely transparent so that there will be no irregularities.
New standards are being prepared keeping in view the suggestions given by the state governments which will be finalized soon.
One Nation, One Ration Card Scheme
Significantly, ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ (ONORC) scheme has been implemented in 32 States and Union Territories so far. Millions of beneficiaries under NFSA i.e. 86% of the population are benefiting from this scheme. About 1.5 crore people are benefiting by moving from one place to another every month. The government has also increased the free ration scheme to help the people.
