To drive a motor vehicle legally in the state of Gujarat, a person must have a valid driving license. A driving license can be obtained by a person with a learning driving license. Learning Driving License is issued in Gujarat by Gujarat RTO as per the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. The Learning Driving License issued in Gujarat is valid for a period of 6 months and the application for permanent DL can be made after 30 days or within 180 days from the date of issuance of the Learning Driving License. Gujarat RTO issues Learning License to the person based on the class of the vehicle he wants to drive. The following are the types of Learning Driving License issued to a person in Gujarat:
Learning Driving License issued for light motor vehicle: This type of LL includes vehicles like jeeps, auto-rickshaws, delivery vans etc.
Learning Driving License Issued for Medium Passenger Vehicle: This type of LL includes vehicles such as Tempo and Minivan used to carry passengers.
Learning Driving License issued for medium freight vehicle: This type of LL includes vehicles like delivery truck, tempo used for transporting goods.
Learning License Issued for Heavy Passenger Vehicles: This type of LL includes vehicles such as large buses and vans used to carry passengers.
Learning License issued for heavy goods vehicle: This type of LL includes vehicles like large trucks and vans used for transporting goods.
Learning License is issued for gearless motorcycles: This type of LL includes vehicles such as gearless scooters and mopeds.
Learning License for Light Motor Vehicle: This type of LL includes vehicles like cars, bikes etc. with gear.
To obtain a Learning Driving License for a motor vehicle whose engine capacity does not exceed 50cc, the person must be over 16 years of age and must obtain consent from his / her parents or guardians.
To obtain a Learning License for a light motor vehicle, a person must be over 18 years of age.
To obtain a Learning License for a commercial vehicle, the person must be over 20 years of age.
The person applying for a Learning License must have communicated with the traffic rules and regulations.

Upon passing the test, the Learning License is sent to the registered address of the applicant.
How to get a Learning Driving License?
In the State of Gujarat, the Gujarat RTO issues a Duplicate Learner License to an applicant whose original Learning License has been stolen, lost or damaged. In case of loss of Learner Driving License, the applicant has to file an FIR, after which he can proceed with the application process.
