Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana – PMFBY) was launched on January 13, 2016. Many a times the farmers suffer loss of their crops due to natural calamities such as storms, floods, droughts, due to which the farmers incur huge economic losses. This Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme has been launched to meet such losses. So every farmer should take advantage of this scheme to get compensation for their crops.
Purpose of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)
This scheme has been started to ensure that the farmers get proper compensation for the losses they incur due to natural calamities. Our country India is called an agricultural country, it is really true. Because most of the population of our country lives on agriculture.
Most of the farmers have taken loans for farming, so sometimes when natural calamities occur, they have to suffer huge losses, so farmers often commit suicide. To solve this problem, the government has started this scheme, which is run by the Department of Agriculture, Government of India. This scheme compensates the loss due to natural calamities.
How much premium has to be paid in Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)?
The biggest benefit to farmers in Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is that most of the premium under the scheme is paid by the Central Government and the State Governments. According to the agriculture official, under this scheme, farmers have to pay only 1.5 to 2 per cent of the total premium for most of the crops, although for some crops, up to 5 per cent of the total premium may be paid.
Who decides the premium of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)?
According to the central government, the amount of premium to be paid to farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is decided by the state governments. The amount of premium is fixed from the reports of State Governments Farmer Leaders, Agriculture Officer, Insurance Company Officials, Meteorological Department Officials and District Magistrate.
